The Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Tamar Ioseliani, has participated in the Turkish Maritime Summit held in Istanbul.

Addressing a panel session titled “From Maritime Routes to Integrated Transport Corridors”, the Deputy Minister spoke at length about Georgia’s strategic position and the large-scale investments earmarked for the development of the nation’s transport infrastructure.

“Situated at the crossroads of Europe and Asia, Georgia has historically served as a vital bridge linking civilisations, cultures, and markets. Today, we are transforming this geographical advantage into a modern, reliable, and highly competitive transport and logistics hub. This hub will seamlessly connect Central Asia, the South Caucasus, the Black Sea region, and Europe. Our ultimate goal is to forge one of the most efficient multimodal transit corridors bridging East and West. Achieving this ambition demands substantial investment, robust regional cooperation, and long-term strategic planning,” Tamar Ioseliani noted.

According to the Deputy Minister, Georgia is set to invest approximately USD 7 billion by 2032 to modernise its transport network, encompassing extensive upgrades across maritime, rail, road, and digital infrastructure.
The Deputy Minister placed particular emphasis on the Anaklia Deep Sea Port project, where marine infrastructure works are already underway. By 2029, upon completion of the initial phase of development, the port will boast a throughput capacity of at least 600,000 TEUs, enabling the country to accommodate large Panamax-class vessels for the first time.

According to the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, the Deputy Minister also highlighted the ongoing rolling stock modernisation programme within Georgian Railway, as well as the construction of the East-West Highway, the vast majority of which has already been completed.

The Director of the Maritime Transport Agency, Ivane Abashidze, also took part in the Turkish Maritime Summit.
