MP Levan Machavariani: Bokuchava’s lectures on conscience are cynical

“Tina Bokuchava’s statement speaks volumes about the dire state of the United National Movement. For her to lecture anyone on conscience is pure cynicism; if she was truly so plagued by guilt, why did she not expose all of this from the very beginning?” remarked parliamentary majority member, MP Levan Machavariani.

According to the MP, it comes as no surprise that they were actively deceiving their own electorate.

“What has befallen this party is a direct consequence of who they truly are; they utterly despise one another and have reduced themselves to a laughing stock. The UNM has absolutely no political capital left. Whatever electoral support they once possessed has completely eroded from election to election. Their current rating is likely close to zero.

Now that their internal dirty laundry has been dragged into the open, their remaining voters must finally see that these people loathe one another and lack even a shred of mutual respect. Tina Bokuchava apparently found out she was the new chairperson whilst sitting in the back of a car. When they treat their own leaders with such staggering disrespect, it is hardly surprising how they used to treat the general public.

The more filth that emerges from their internal kitchen, the harder their ratings will plummet. It is incredibly demoralising for rank-and-file party members to watch their leaders being merely used as pawns. The fact that Nanuka Zhorzholiani is now being floated as a potential leader only adds to the demoralisation. What on earth does she have to do with serious politics? She is a fine radical activist, but being a radical activist and leading a political party are two entirely different things,” Machavariani noted.

For context, the current Chairperson of the United National Movement previously admitted: “I suffered deep remorse that Khabeishvili’s health was given as a false reason for his replacement, which was not the case.”
