Government Administration Head meets with U.S. State Department delegation
Levan Zhorzholiani, Head of the Georgian Government Administration, met with a delegation from the United States Department of State, led by Senior Advisor Jonathan Askonas.
According to the Georgian government’s press service, the discussion centred on the measures undertaken by Georgian authorities to bolster the country’s transit and connectivity functions.
Levan Zhorzholiani briefed the U.S. delegation on the substantial investments the Georgian government is making in railway, road, and port infrastructure to enhance these functions. He emphasised that Georgia is not satisfied with the current state of relations with the United States and reaffirmed the country’s willingness to renew the strategic partnership from a fresh perspective, with a clear roadmap in place.
The meeting also addressed Georgia’s stance on the so-called Trump Route. The potential positive impact of the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP) on regional security, particularly in facilitating cargo movement under the U.S. auspices, was highlighted.
Furthermore, the importance of the Trump administration’s efforts to establish peace in the region was acknowledged, along with Georgia’s role in normalising relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
The discussions took place at the Government Administration and were attended by Deputy Foreign Minister Aleksandre Khvtisiashvili and Acting U.S. Ambassador to Georgia, Alan Purcell.
