Giorgi Vashadze, a leader of the United National Movement, has officially submitted a request to the Parliament to revoke his mandate. He announced this during an ongoing rally in front of the Parliament.
Vashadze stated that he has not discussed this decision with his colleagues but is confident they will follow suit.
“My statement is already registered in Parliament, and I will formally demand tomorrow that my association with this institution be terminated. I have no connection with them—no mandate, no Parliament. This self-proclaimed body holds no legitimacy. The power lies with you, not them,” he declared, addressing the rally participants and thanking them for gathering on Rustaveli Avenue.
He emphasized that today’s events mark the beginning of a new phase.
“We are entering a stage where this country has no government. Together, we will establish alternative, legitimate mechanisms, recognized by you, and begin engaging with the international community. This will solidify the fact that these elections will not be recognized. The mechanisms we create with opposition colleagues will act as your representation. I believe we will build a nation where everyone, big or small, has a dignified place. Soon, Georgia will celebrate a great triumph, shining as a united, strong, EU-member country of honourable people,” Vashadze said.
