“Ivanishvili defeated the parties, NGOs, and the media. The only thing he could not overcome was the people and peaceful civil protest. Now, we are witnessing an artificially orchestrated scenario in which the most powerful movement, backed by substantial resources to successfully change the government, whether intentionally or out of ignorance, is subjected to calls for overthrow and associated with the UNM’s most unacceptable figures,” said Giorgi Gakharia, leader of the Gakharia for Georgia party.

According to Gakharia, society might accept a scenario in which peaceful protests are discredited through calls for overthrow and a coup, ultimately leading to the legitimisation of the Georgian Dream that lacks legitimacy.

“Only peaceful changes are acceptable to society, and the word ‘peaceful’ is crucial here. Georgian society is ready for change, but a peaceful, not revolutionary approach. Over the past year, following the parliamentary elections, the most valuable achievement has been the emergence of peaceful civil protest. Georgian Dream recognised this well. Ivanishvili defeated political parties, civil society, NGOs, and the media; the only thing he could not defeat was the people and their peaceful protest.

We have come to discredit this peaceful civil movement through boycotts, revolutions, peaceful coups, and overthrow attempts. Now, we are witnessing an artificially orchestrated scenario in which the most powerful movement, backed by substantial resources to successfully change the government, whether intentionally or out of ignorance, is subjected to calls for overthrow and associated with the UNM’s most unacceptable figures.

There is a risk that, by calling for this overthrow, staging a coup, and positioning discredited figures as leaders of these peaceful protests, we could undermine the legitimacy of the protests themselves. This could lead to serious consequences, the legitimisation of the so-called Georgian Dream government, which lacks legitimacy, and an escalation of authoritarian tendencies,” said Giorgi Gakharia.

Giorgi Gakharia is convinced that the date of October 4, associated with the so-called “peaceful revolution”, was orchestrated behind the scenes by Georgian Dream.

“I am convinced that the date of October 4, the date of the “peaceful revolution,” was orchestrated behind the scenes by Georgian Dream and nowhere else. For me, the United National Movement’s voters deserve respect for their loyalty to the party, but they must finally realise that over the past 13 years, beyond empty promises, stomping their feet, and shouting, “We will finish with them tomorrow,” “They will run away,” and so on, they have done nothing. That truly benefits Georgian Dream,” said Giorgi Gakharia.
