Giorgi Gakharia, Maia Tskitishvili and Levan Davitashvili hold meeting with locals at Pankisi Gorge

Minister of Internal Affairs Giorgi Gakharia is meeting with the locals of the Pankisi Gorge without any cameras behind closed doors. Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure Maia Tskitishvili and Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Levan Davitashvili are attending the meeting at the house of one of the locals.

Giorgi Gakharia got acquainted with the situation in the Pankisi Gorge. According to the Interior Minister, the Special Forces responded when protesters started throwing stones at them. According to the minister, this is inadmissible and the response will be strict.

Several people have been injured, including journalists, during the confrontation between protesters and special force units in the Pankisi Gorge. Reportedly several people have been detained, however, no official information in that regard has been released.

Protesters threw stones and sticks at the special force units. The law enforcers used tear gas and rubber bullets.

Locals of Pankisi Gorge are expressing protest against the construction of the Hydro Power Plant Khadori 3 in the Gorge.
