Giorgi Gakharia, leader of the Gakharia for Georgia party, confirmed that he had been granted a residence permit in Germany.

In a live broadcast of TV Pirveli, Gakharia said the long-stay visa allows him to work in Europe, which means party and expert activities instead of job seeking.

Giorgi Gakharia clarified that a residence permit was not political asylum.

“We don’t speak about political asylum. These people want to create a myth. This is a work permit, and this work will be linked to Georgia, Georgia’s European future, and expert activities on EU integration and EU enlargement eastward. All will be centered around Georgia,” he said.

According to Gakharia, he will serve Georgia from Germany.

“Yes, now I will serve my country from here,” he said, adding he did not plan to return to Tbilisi in the near future.
