Giorgi Chakhunashvili thanks legal team and supporters after securing release following plea deal

Doctor Giorgi Chakhunashvili, detained in connection with the October 4 investigation, expressed heartfelt gratitude to his family, legal team, and well-wishers in Georgia and abroad immediately upon his release from custody.

The physician acknowledged that he had not anticipated being freed at this time, paying tribute to those who supported him throughout his three-month detention.

“My deepest thanks go to all my supporters, both within Georgia and internationally, who shared in the pain of my imprisonment. I genuinely did not expect to be released today. I send my warmest regards to everyone remaining in Gldani Prison, where I was held. I want to offer my encouragement to all those still behind bars, regardless of age or gender.

I am immensely grateful to my defence counsel, who worked tirelessly, including persuading me to accept this path. My heartfelt thanks also go to my family, who stood firmly by my side over these three months. In short, so that no one is left out, I love you all dearly and send you my warmest embrace. Everything will be not just fine, but wonderful,” Chakhunashvili declared upon stepping out of the facility.

For context, the Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that two defendants in the October 4 case, Giorgi Chakhunashvili and Zakro Albutashvili, admitted guilt and applied for a plea bargain. The court approved the application.
