The Chair of the European Georgia, Giga Bokeria left the party on Thursday citing “disagreement and serious controversy over the way of conducting primaries.”
“Unfortunately, this process was followed by a serious controversy within the party. Some party members found the outcome and my position as chairman unacceptable. In particular, I backed the second list in the primaries, believing that it had made a significant contribution to the party’s development. Unfortunately, the party’s secretary general and chairman of the political council disagreed, sparking significant controversy.
The rule of primaries also caused a great difference of opinion. We decided that only active supporters of our political power should be involved in this process. This was the initial arrangement. Unfortunately, the party’s secretary general, Akaki Bobokhidze, and his followers reversed this decision, reportedly due to their interest in the competition, and the majority of the political council approved it. This was also a major component in the disagreement,” added Giga Bokeria.
Tamar Chergoleishvili also quit the party, as announced at the briefing.
