Gia Volski – Recognition of occupied Abkhazia, South Ossetia by Syria is Russia’s initiative

Gia Volski, Vice Speaker of the Parliament claims that recognition of Georgia’s occupied regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia by Syria is Russia’s initiative.

Volski told First Channel that the system of Bashar Hafez al-Assad, current President of Syria, is completely dependent on Russia.

“The political decision is mediated by Russia. It is the political target of Russia that Georgia’s occupied regions are recognized as many as possible countries. I am sure only few people in Syria actually know history of these territorial conflicts,” Volski said.

Syria and Georgia’s two occupied regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia have agreed to exchange recognition and set up Embassy-level diplomatic relations, Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reports.
