German Foreign Office: German Ambassador represents Federal Government’s position, acts in full compliance with Vienna Convention
“German Ambassador represents the position of the Federal Government and acts in full compliance with the Vienna Convention,” reads the statement of the German Foreign Office posted on the X Platform.
“We firmly reject the continuing aggressive rhetoric by representatives of the Georgian Dream towards the German Ambassador in Tbilisi & his baseless summons today. He represents the position of the Federal Government & acts in full compliance with the Vienna Convention,” reads the statement.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia (MFA) has summoned the German Ambassador following concerns about alleged political interference in the host country’s internal affairs.
“The Ambassador was reminded that, in accordance with Article 41, Paragraph 1 of the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, members of a diplomatic mission are required to respect the laws and regulations of the host country and must refrain from interfering in its internal affairs,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated.
“I have been formally summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia. A summoning is a form of diplomatic sanction. It is highly unusual between friendly states,” German Ambassador to Georgia Peter Fischer told Georgian media before entering the Foreign Ministry building.
We firmly reject the continuing aggressive rhetoric by representatives of the Georgian Dream towards the German Ambassador in Tblisi & his baseless summons today. He represents the position of the Federal Government & acts in full compliance with the Vienna Convention.
