German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock on Friday visited the village of Odzisi, in the vicinity of the Tskhinvali occupation line, EU Monitoring Mission reported.
“The Head of the EU Monitoring Mission in Georgia (EUMM), Dimitrios Karabalis, hosted today German Foreign Minister, Annalena Baerbock, on a visit to the Administrative Boundary Line (ABL) in the Odzisi area.
At the Odzisi crossing point, the Head of EUMM briefed the Minister on the most recent security developments in the area. He particularly highlighted how ongoing ‘borderisation’ activities and the protracted closure of the Odzisi crossing point for regular cross-ABL traffic negatively affects the local population’s freedom of movement. Mr. Karabalis explained that the Mission has advocated for the lifting of freedom of movement restrictions during the upcoming Easter holiday season, and will continue to advocate for the permanent reopening of the crossing points along the South Ossetian ABL.
The Foreign Minister expressed her gratitude for the insightful briefing and EUMM’s contribution to stability in Georgia and the wider region.
Currently, Germany has the biggest representation in the EUMM, with 28 nationals serving in the Mission,” reads information by EUMM.
