GeoStat: Circulatory diseases and cancer are leading causes of death in Georgia in 2025

A total of 44,319 people died in Georgia in 2025, representing a minor increase of 348 individuals, or 0.8%, compared to the 2024 figures, according to the National Statistics Office of Georgia (GeoStat).

According to GeoStat, the leading causes of death are diseases of the circulatory system and malignant tumours (cancer), accounting for 37.7% and 15.5% of total fatalities, respectively.

The percentage distribution of deaths by primary causes varies across different age groups:

Under the age of 5: Perinatal conditions remain the dominant cause of death;
Aged 5 to 39: External causes, including injuries, poisoning, and accidents, are the most prevalent;
Aged 40 and above: Diseases of the circulatory system and tumours are the primary causes of mortality.
