Georgia's population surged by nearly 10,000 by January 2025, Geostat reports

According to the National Statistics Service (Geostat), as of January 1, 2025, Georgia’s population reached 3,704,500, an increase of 9,900 compared to the same period last year.

It is noteworthy that in 2024, the country experienced a negative natural increase of -4,488, while a positive migration balance of 14,386 was recorded.

As reported by Geostat, 61.5 per cent of Georgia’s population resides in urban areas. Tbilisi alone accounts for over a third of the total population.

As of January 1, 2025, 19.2 per cent of the population is aged 0-14, while 64.2 per cent falls within the working-age group (15-64 years). Meanwhile, individuals aged 65 and older represent 16.6 per cent of the total population.

In terms of gender distribution, there were 1,780,600 men and 1,923,900 women. This translates to 48 per cent of the population being male and 52 per cent female.

The agency’s report shows a sex ratio of 93, indicating that there are 93 men for every 100 women. Notably, among individuals under 40, the number of men exceeds that of women. However, from the age of 40 onward, this trend reverses, reflecting the longer life expectancy of women compared to men.
