Georgia's Interior Minister chairs interagency maritime security council session at JMOC
Georgia’s Minister of Internal Affairs, Geka Geladze, chaired a session of the Interagency Maritime Security Council at the Joint Maritime Operations Centre (JMOC).
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), the session reviewed the operational report of the Joint Maritime Operations Centre, the current situation in the Black Sea, and prevailing security matters and risks.
“Council members discussed the challenges facing Georgia in light of recent global developments. They also defined the priorities of the Joint Maritime Operations Centre and reviewed plans for the period ahead. Additionally, the council’s rules of procedure and other agenda items were formally approved.
The session was attended by deputy ministers from the agencies represented on the Council of the Joint Maritime Operations Centre, as well as the heads of relevant units, including: Lasha Maghradze, First Deputy Head of the State Security Service; Grigol Giorgadze, Deputy Minister of Defence; Lasha Darsalia, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs; Solomon Pavliashvili, Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture; and Davit Tamazashvili, Head of the Border Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The Joint Maritime Operations Centre (JMOC) represents a distinctive concept for ensuring maritime and border security, holding vital strategic and operational significance.
The Interagency Council provides coordination for the Centre’s activities. The Minister of Internal Affairs chairs it and comprises agencies subordinate to the Border Police, the State Security Service, the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, and the Ministry of Finance.
Following the conclusion of the Interagency Maritime Security Council session, Minister Geladze and Council members inspected the infrastructure and vessels at the Coast Guard base in Poti. Minister Geladze expressed his gratitude to Border Police personnel for their service to the country,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs statement read.
