Georgia's future based on idea of rejoining European family, FM says

On April 9, 1989, when the Georgian people who came out on Rustaveli Avenue to defend statehood were dispersed by the punitive army of the Soviet Union, a new stage in our country’s history began – the struggle for independence – a struggle that became a conscious choice of the Georgian people and continues to this day, stated Georgia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ilia Darchiashvili.

Georgia, he says, remains independent and peaceful despite the region’s grave geopolitical situation.

Georgia’s future has been based on rejoining the European family since its independence. Our country has continually moved in this direction. It is an irreversible process since Georgia is a European state, and our government has made the Georgian people’s choice a strategic priority. Only unity and strength will enable us to achieve this goal.

Despite the acute geopolitical situation in the region, Georgia still maintains its independence and peaceful course.

Our country is on a difficult path, but with dedication, professionalism, and accountability, we will overcome all obstacles,” the Foreign Ministry head said.
