Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili expressed sorrow over the death of the former President of Romania, Ion Iliescu.

Kavelashvili wrote on the X Platform that Ion Iliescu played a significant role in strengthening the ties between Georgia and Romania.

“It is with deep sorrow that we mourn the passing of former President of Romania, Mr. Ion Iliescu. He played a significant role in strengthening the ties between Georgia and Romania.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, as well as to the people and Government of Romania,” he said.
