Georgian politicians remark on MPs’ visit to Ukraine
Georgia continues to support Ukraine and the Ukrainian people, Vice Speaker Archil Talakvadze said Tuesday . He said that the Georgian Dream parliamentary team would visit Ukraine when the opportunity presents itself.
Girchi party MPr Sandro Rakviashvili supported the idea, saying he expects all political parties, including GD, to travel to Ukraine. “We will ask questions to the Ukrainian colleagues. I hope this communication will be enough to solve the misunderstanding. Our relationships must improve as we have no closer ally than Ukraine,” Rakviashvili said.
Opposition MP Davit Usupashvili accused GD leaders of turning a blind eye to the ongoing developments in Ukraine and the world. Usupashvili believes that Georgia should demonstrate consolidated support and solidarity with Ukraine.
“No matter who visits Ukraine, though Georgia, as a state, should have a firm position and be able to discern either the good or the evil. Evil stands on one side, the good on the other. We should stand with the Ukrainian people and government where the whole democratic community is,” Usupashvili said.
It is noteworthy that Verkhovna Rada Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk invited parliament members of different countries, among them Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili, to visit the sites of atrocities by Russian troops. Shalva Papuashvili first rebuffed to visit Ukraine on April 8, dubbing Stefanchuk’s invitation improper.
