Georgian PM: We want the party ban lawsuit upheld in full, and the opposition must now answer for its actions
“We want the lawsuit at the Constitutional Court to be upheld in full,” Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze told journalists.
Kobakhidze said the opposition knew full well that it was acting against the constitutional order and will now have to answer for it.
“We want the lawsuit to be upheld in full. We have filed the claim, and we seek to have it upheld in its entirety. As for the opposition, I don’t know what arguments they can present, because over all these years they have been building the case against their own positions. They knew full well that they were acting against the constitutional order, including by using violence to overthrow it. Today they will have to answer for all of this. Because they were in fact opposing the constitutional order after elections, before elections, every time, year after year, they will find it very hard to say anything at the Constitutional Court,” the Prime Minister said.
Georgian Dream has filed a constitutional lawsuit seeking to ban the United National Movement, the Coalition for Change, Strong Georgia – Lelo, the Federalists, and Gakharia for Georgia, and to declare their activities unconstitutional. The Constitutional Court will begin hearing the case on 21 October.
