Tbilisi Mayor says opposition lacks arguments necessary for legal dispute, uses courtroom floor solely for political statements
“Opposition parties have no counterarguments to the crime they committed,” said Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze, commenting on the process going on in the Constitutional Court of Georgia.
According to Kaladze, the opposition uses the courtroom floor solely for political statements.
“The opposition uses the courtroom floor solely for political statements. They lack the arguments necessary for a legal dispute. We have not heard a single counterargument to the crime they committed,” he said.
Tbilisi Mayor explained that the majority of the population demands banning the United National Movement (UNM) and other parties affiliated with the UNM.
“The majority of the country’s population also demands the banning of such parties. When you are a politician, a representative of a specific political party, your primary duty is to fulfill the mandate of the Georgian people, rather than carrying out instructions from external sources. Through their statements and specific actions, they are waging a struggle against Georgian statehood. Many facts confirm this. They fought to prevent granting the country an Association Agreement and EU candidate country status. They went door to door in Brussels to disrupt this. There is no place for such individuals in Georgian politics,” he said.
Kakha Kaladze believes the process will play a positive role in making the country’s political field healthier.
“I am confident that space will emerge for new politicians and parties. The political arena will not be left without the opposition. We cannot all hold the same views. There should be differing opinions, but the country’s interests must not be harmed,” he said.
