“Significant initiatives of the Georgian government and the National Bank foster increased competition in the financial sector, as well as the development of innovations and digital services, said Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, addressing the 2026 Tbilisi Finance Summit.

According to the PM, in recent years, concrete steps have been taken, including the development of a regulatory framework for the registration and supervision of virtual asset service providers, as well as rules for the issuance of stable virtual assets.

“Currently, over 40 virtual asset service providers operate on the market. Open banking operates, and a licensing framework for digital banks has been established; as a result, three digital banks are currently operating in Georgia. One of these was founded through a Singaporean initiative. Furthermore, at the initiative of the National Bank of Georgia (NBG), payment systems have been upgraded, a development that will help increase access to financial services and provide fintech companies with greater opportunities to implement innovative projects.

At the same time, with the NBG’s involvement, regional cross-border payment projects are being developed, which will further deepen financial ties between our countries. We welcome the active cooperation among the countries of the region in this regard. These steps establish a solid foundation for the development of a modern, innovative, and competitive financial ecosystem in Georgia, a key prerequisite for the country’s economic growth and its integration into international markets.

Deepening regional cooperation and Georgia’s establishment as a regional financial and technological hub is a priority for the Georgian government, and the Tbilisi Finance Summit plays a key role in this process. I believe the Tbilisi Finance Summit will contribute to regional cooperation, further economic development, expansion of investment possibilities, and intensification of trade relations among the Middle Corridor countries. I wish you productive discussions and success,” the PM said.
