PM: Average economic growth at 9.3 per cent in 2021-2025; This trend to continue in 2026
“Average economic growth stood at 9.3 per cent between 2021 and 2025. This trend continues this year. According to the preliminary data, economic growth reached 7.6% during the first eight months of 2026. It is noteworthy that this high economic growth is largely driven by the development of relatively high-productivity sectors, including the export of information and communication technology (ICT) services,” said Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, addressing the 2026 Tbilisi Finance Summit.
The PM highlighted the role of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the Georgian economy’s development.
“For centuries, Georgia has served as a bridge connecting East and West. Today, against the backdrop of global economic and geopolitical shifts, this historical role is taking on new significance. Our strategic location, infrastructure, macroeconomic stability, and favorable investment climate provide a solid foundation for Georgia to emerge as a regional hub for trade, logistics, finance, and technological innovation.
High economic growth contributed to this potential. Average economic growth stood at 9.3 per cent between 2021 and 2025. This trend continues this year. According to preliminary data, economic growth reached 7.6% during the first eight months of 2026. It is noteworthy that this high economic growth is largely driven by the development of relatively high-productivity sectors, including the export of information and communication technology (ICT) services.
Alongside positive macroeconomic trends, it is important to note the growing role of Foreign Direct Investment in the development of Georgia’s economy—particularly within the financial sector, where the attraction of international capital fosters increased competitiveness, the adoption of new technologies, and the strengthening of the country’s potential as a regional financial hub. Today, the financial sector holds a leading position in attracting foreign direct investment into the country,” he said.
On October 27-28, Tbilisi will host the 2nd Tbilisi Finance Summit, bringing together representatives of central banks, international financial institutions, fintech and innovation companies. More than 800 representatives from about 60 countries and around 100 high-level speakers will participate in this year’s summit.
The summit is organized jointly by the National Bank of Georgia (NBG), the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, and the Singapore-based Global Finance & Technology Network (GFTN).
