Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili met the President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Regional security issues along with the results of the strategic partnership between the two countries and new prospects of future cooperation held within the framework of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) in New York were discussed at the meeting.

As Irakli Garibashvili noted, Georgia and Turkey have achieved significant progress in cooperation, which was reflected in both economic and political dimensions. According to the PM, the existing regional projects are a clear example of effective strategic cooperation, sustainable development, and reliable partnership between Georgia and Turkey, which will bring greater economic independence, security and prosperity to both countries.

The parties also reviewed the security environment in the region. Irakli Garibashvili emphasized the importance of settling issues through peaceful negotiations.

Georgian PM thanked Recep Tayyip Erdogan for his strong support towards the sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as European and North Atlantic integration of Georgia.

“Had a productive meeting with President Erdogan at UNGA. We discussed how to further strengthen strategic partnerships and enhance cooperation in bilateral, regional, and multilateral areas,” Garibashvili tweeted.
