Agreement signed on construction of Tsitsamuri-Avchala section of Tbilisi Bypass road
The Roads Department of the Georgian Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure signed an agreement with the tender-winner China Railway Tunnel Group Co., Ltd on the construction of the 7.3-kilometre-long Tsitsamuri-Avchala section of the Tbilisi Bypass road.
Salome Tsurtsumia, Deputy Chair of the Roads Department and Liang Hongjun, an official representative and key project manager for China Railway Tunnel Group Co., Ltd. (CRTG) in Georgia, signed the agreement.
A four-lane highway will be constructed on the Tsitsamuri–Avchala section, with two parallel tunnels, each 3.4 kilometres long, serving as one of the key engineering components. The project also includes the construction of bridges, interchanges, and other engineering structures.
The Tbilisi bypass road is an important part of the East-West International Highway (E60). The main objective of the project is to divert transit traffic around the capital and to relieve congestion on Tbilisi’s transport network. The road will contribute to transit efficiency and reduce travel time and costs.
“The construction of the Tbilisi bypass road is a significant project for the development of the East-West International Transport Corridor, aimed at strengthening the country’s transit capabilities and easing the burden on the capital’s transport infrastructure,” the Roads Department said.
