Georgian PM highlights record economic growth at UN, calling long-term sustainability Georgia’s chief priority

“Over the past five years, Georgia has recorded one of the highest average economic growth rates globally,” Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said in a video address to the SDG Moment 2026 event held on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.

The Prime Minister noted that Georgia’s main priority now is ensuring these economic gains translate into sustainable, inclusive, and long-term development.

“Over the past five years, Georgia has recorded one of the highest average economic growth rates globally. But economic performance is only one part of the picture. Our real challenge is to ensure that it translates into sustainable, inclusive, and long-term development.

The SDGs help us turn this ambition into practice by providing a framework for our national priorities, from economic development, agriculture and tourism to energy efficiency, climate action, responsible natural resource use, and the growth of green and innovative sectors.

At the heart of all these efforts is the principle that no one should be left behind. We must ensure that development reaches not only our cities, but also our rural communities and those facing the greatest barriers to opportunity. That is why reducing the urban-rural divide is at the core of Georgia’s new UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework for 2026–2030,” the Prime Minister stated.
