Georgian PM discusses bilateral relations and future of South Caucasus region with Azerbaijan's President

“During today’s meeting, we engaged in a detailed discussion on issues related to both bilateral relations and the future of the South Caucasus. In this context, we welcome the ongoing peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Georgia firmly supports peaceful coexistence, constructive cooperation, and new initiatives in the region,” stated Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze at a joint briefing with Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev.

According to Kobakhidze, the strategic partnership and relations between the two nations are developing dynamically. The Prime Minister also expressed his gratitude to Azerbaijan for its steadfast support of Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

“First and foremost, I would like to sincerely thank Ilham Aliyev for visiting Georgia. He is a dear friend of Georgia, and his presence here is a great honour for all of us. I am pleased to have the opportunity to host you and to discuss both bilateral cooperation and regional developments. I would also like to take this moment to thank you once again for your condolences on the passing of Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II of Georgia, and for the sympathy you and the people of Azerbaijan have shown. We deeply appreciate this support.

Our peoples are bound by centuries-old, special historical friendship and good-neighbourly relations, and these ties are vividly reflected in the strategic partnership between our states. We are pleased to see this partnership and our relations flourishing across various spheres. In all this, your personal efforts are particularly valued, and I thank you, Mr President, for your commitment. I also wish to express my gratitude to the members of our delegations, our ministers, government officials, and ambassadors, who have all made significant contributions to strengthening these relations.

We appreciate your unwavering support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, which is of vital importance to us. Since regaining independence, Georgia has consistently been a strong advocate for Azerbaijan’s national interests, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. During today’s discussions, we thoroughly examined issues related to both bilateral relations and the future of the South Caucasus as a whole. In this regard, we welcome the ongoing peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Georgia remains a firm supporter of peaceful coexistence, constructive cooperation, and new regional initiatives. We stand always ready, if needed, to contribute positively to the development of these relations, promote dialogue, and facilitate the peace process,” concluded Irakli Kobakhidze.
