Georgian Patriarch turns 89

Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II turned 89 today. The Patriarchate congratulated Ilia II on his birthday.

In a congratulatory statement, Georgian Orthodox Church (GOC) said that Ilia II has taught the parishioners faithfulness to God, love, gratitude, faith, patience, kindness, forgiveness and care for many years.

“Let the Patriarch steers the Georgian Orthodox Church and the Georgian nation on the spiritual path,” reads the statement.

In his congratulatory letter, Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili said that the Georgian Patriarch heads approximately 2 000 acting churches and over 3 000 clergies.

“I wish our Patriarch long life and strong health. Let his warmth and prayers strengthen us and our motherland,” Papuashvili said.
