Georgian Parliament initiates legislation to remove mandatory NGO participation in public decision-making

The participation of non-governmental organisations in public decision-making will no longer be required as a legislative package of 14 draft legislation has been introduced in Parliament on Monday.

Under the proposed changes, candidates for the Prosecutorial Council and the Disciplinary College of Common Courts judges would no longer be selected from individuals nominated by non-profit legal entities. Additionally, NGO representatives would be excluded from the selection commission for the Public Defender of Consumer Interests at the National Regulatory Body.

The parliamentary majority has confirmed that these amendments will affect all existing laws that currently mandate NGO participation in public decision-making processes.
