Georgian Orthodox Church celebrates Epiphany today

The Orthodox Church celebrates the Epiphany today. The festive liturgies and rituals of water blessing and mass baptism were held at the churches.

Metropolitan Shio (Mujiri) of Senaki and Chkhorotsku, the Locum Tenens of the Patriarchal Throne, conducted the service at the Holy Trinity Cathedral. People attending the ceremony are sprinkled with holy water and can take some holy water home.

The Epiphany commemorates the baptism of Jesus Christ in the Jordan River by John the Baptist.

Epiphany is one of the 12 main Christian celebrations and is also called the Feast of the Revelation of God.
