Georgian, Hungarian PMs sign declaration on strategic partnership

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili continues a series of high-level meetings within the scope of his official visit to Hungary.

Granting the status of an EU candidate country to Georgia, the country’s territorial integrity, and the multidirectional economic cooperation between the two countries were the key topics discussed at today’s face-to-face meeting between Irakli Garibashvili and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, and at the subsequent extended meeting, the government’s press office has said.

The conversation also touched on Georgia’s considerable progress on the path to European integration.

PM Garibashvili said, “the country’s authorities are committed to fulfilling assumed obligations to achieve rapid progress on the path to EU membership.”

Georgian PM thanked Viktor Orbán for Hungary’s firm support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Hungary’s significant contribution to the EU Monitoring Mission was also underscored.

“Special emphasis was placed on the economic cooperation between Georgia and Hungary, pointing out that, this year, the trade turnover between the two countries doubled. The parties also discussed new projects and prospective plans in this direction, with their implementation set to deepen the economic relations between the two countries even further.

The conversation also revolved around the need to work toward enhancing Black Sea connectivity. Hope was expressed that, with increased activity on the part of European partners and European financial institutions in place, the potential of the Black Sea will be used to the fullest.

The parties discussed regional security issues. After the meeting, the PMs signed the Declaration on Strategic Partnership between Hungary and Georgia,” reads the press statement.
