Gakharia for Georgia’s Khvedeliani: We must wait for genuine restoration of relations with Germany; GD attempts to spin any process to its own advantage

“We hope Kartozia will be the ambassador of the country instead of the Georgian Dream’s Ambassador in Germany,” said Tata Khvedeliani, a member of the Gakharia for Georgia party.

Khvedeliani regrets that the ceremony of presenting credentials will be held 10 months delayed. She said the Georgian Dream was pursuing a harmful policy leading to the country’s isolation.

“It is important to restore relations with Germany, taking into account our country’s national interests and the best interests of our citizens,” she said.

Khvedeliani said Georgia should look forward to “restoration of relations genuinely.” However, she added that she did not expect this under GD in power since “these people constantly harm foreign relations.”

Responding to the question regarding the removal of information from the German Foreign Office’s website, namely, whether Peter Fischer’s departure might be the reason for this move, Khvedeliani stated that she ruled this out.

“I rule that out. The Georgian Dream builds its policy and governs the country based on personalities. In democratic, normal countries, like Germany, such processes are not personalized. GD attempts to spin any process to its own advantage.

This process cannot be passed off as a restoration of relations or a ‘reset,’ because our country and its people remember a truly successful foreign policy, foreign relations that served the best interests of our citizens. The Georgian Dream, however, is harming our country and its national interests through its policies; this is the most anti-Georgian, anti-European government in our country’s history.

How can any obstacle in Georgia-Germany relations be on the part of an ambassador? The ambassador’s mission is to resolve the relations. At the same time, we see that the ‘Dream,’ with its aggressive rhetoric and offences, political messages benefiting only the GD, harms the national interests of our country and people,” she said.

Former German Ambassador to Georgia Peter Fischer completed his diplomatic mission in Georgia in June.

Aleksandre Kartozia was appointed Georgian Ambassador to Germany in September of 2025. He will present his credentials to the German President on July 23.
