Health Minister Zurab Azarashvili delivered a speech at the 76th World Health Assembly, stressing Georgia’s reforms to boost citizens’ access to healthcare and medications.
In his speech, the Minister underscored the success of the nation’s universal healthcare program, noting that it has covered more than 95% of the population over the last decade while increasing financing has reduced out-of-pocket costs. Hepatitis C and TB have also declined in prevalence.
According to the present strategy, hepatitis C should be totally eradicated by 2025, Azarashvili stated.
The Minister also mentioned the formation of pricing regulations and quality control mechanisms for medications.
Health Minister Zurab Azarashvili, together with Deputy Minister Tamar Gabunia, is attending the World Health Assembly in Geneva. The Georgian delegation participates in the discussions and high-ranking meetings held within the event.
The 76th World Health Assembly will end on May 24.
