Georgian Foreign Minister and Vice Prime Minister David Zalkaliani had a phone conversation with his Latvian colleague, Edgars Rinkēvičs.
The two Foreign Ministers spoke about the Russian aggression against Ukraine, pledged support to Ukraine and exchanged information about political and humanitarian support to the war-hit country.
During the conversation, the sides discussed the security environment in the region and the need for consolidation on part of the international partners.
David Zalkaliani focused on Georgia’s application for the expedited EU accession. He stressed that the process was irreversible and that the government would follow the implementation of the commitments as per the Association Agreement in a set timeframe.
The two Foreign Ministers welcomed the joint statement of the European Union leaders, who met on March 10 in Versailles and urged the European Commission to submit its opinions on EU membership applications of Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia without delay.
