The Georgian Embassy in Brazil issued a statement of alert for Georgian citizens, urging them to exercise caution due to the current situation in Rio de Janeiro following the police raid in the city.

“Due to a large-scale raid implemented by law enforcement agencies in Rio de Janeiro and the current situation (limited movement, changes in flight schedules, closure of public assembly and cultural spaces), the Georgian Embassy in Brazil calls on Georgian citizens to exercise caution to ensure full compliance with the regulations established by law enforcement agencies in the state!

In case of urgency and for additional information, please contact us via hotline +55 61 3366 1101,” reads the statement.

At least 132 people were killed in Rio de Janeiro in Tuesday’s violent police raids targeting the city’s drug traffickers, the state public defender’s office reported, a toll more than double the current official count.

Police have confirmed that at least 64 people, among them four police officers, were killed in the raid.
