Georgian Economy Minister engages with Uzbekistan's Transport Minister
Georgia’s Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Mariam Kvrivishvili, held discussions with Uzbekistan’s Transport Minister, Ilkhom Mahkamov, on bilateral and regional cooperation. The parties elaborated on Transport Corridor Europe-Caucasus-Asia (TRACECA), the Middle Corridor, and the CAREC Program initiatives.
The Georgian Minister of Economy briefed the Uzbek Transport Minister on key projects aimed at enhancing Georgia’s transport corridor competitiveness and capacity, including the Anaklia Deep Sea Port, the East-West Highway, Tbilisi Airport, and the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars Railway, among others.
Mariam Kvrivishvili remarked that Uzbekistan was a significant economic partner for Georgia.
“We are ready to further intensify the relations in bilateral trade, transport, logistics, energy and other spheres. Our port logistics infrastructure is ready to transit Uzbekistani products to European markets. We are constructing significant infrastructure in Anaklia and Tbilisi and welcome Uzbek investments in Georgia,” she said.
Uzbekistan’s Transport Minister noted that his country was interested in increasing cargo turnover through the Georgian corridor to 1.5 million tons. He invited Minister Kvrivishvili to the high-level multilateral meeting scheduled for September to review regional large-scale railway projects with the participation of China, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan.
The ministers discussed the liberalisation of the agreement with Uzbekistan’s civil aviation sector, which is expected to boost passenger traffic and foster stronger cooperation in the tourism industry.
According to the Ministry of Economy, Mariam Kvrivishvili highlighted the opportunity to launch direct flights from Uzbekistan to the Kutaisi International Airport. She stated that the number of visitors from Uzbekistan to Georgia increased by 23.4 per cent in 2024, and there was a further rise of 14.5 per cent in the first six months of 2025.
Deputy Georgian Ministers of Economy Guram Guramishvili, Irakli Nadareishvili and Gennady Arveladze, and Georgian Ambassador to Uzbekistan Davit Kotaria attended the meeting.
