Georgian Competition and Consumer Protection Agency and Swedish Consumer Protection Agency sign MoC
A Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) has been signed between the Georgian Competition and Consumer Protection Agency (GCCPA) and the Swedish Consumer Protection Agency (KOV).
The agreement was signed by Irakli Lekvinadze, Chairman of the GCCPA, and Lena Aronsson, Director General of KOV, during a study visit to Sweden.
“The Memorandum aims to deepen collaboration between our agencies, facilitate the exchange of experience and best practices in consumer protection,” said Irakli Lekvinadze.
The GCCPA Chairman’s visit to Sweden is connected to the Competition and Consumer Protection Agency’s upcoming role as President of the International Consumer Protection and Enforcement Network (ICPEN). The agency is scheduled to assume the presidency from July 1 this year and will host a high-level international conference in September, attended by representatives from over 80 countries.
ICPEN brings together consumer protection authorities from around the world to enhance cross-border cooperation and effectively safeguard consumer interests globally.
Concurrent with the signing of the Memorandum, the parties discussed strategies for the effective implementation of consumer protection policies, current challenges, the development of the regulatory framework, and the enhancement of enforcement mechanisms. The meetings also identified key areas for future cooperation.
Topics discussed included combating unfair commercial practices, product safety oversight, consumer rights protection in tourism and transportation sectors, and the regulation of so-called dark patterns prevalent in the digital space.
The Georgian Embassy in Sweden actively participated in the events and the signing process.
According to official sources, Irakli Lekvinadze’s delegation included Sergo Sanikidze, Head of the Consumer Rights Protection Department, along with Sandro Alapishvili and Nutsa Putkaradze, officials from the same department. The meetings were also attended by Ivliane Dzneladze, representative of the Georgian Embassy in Sweden.
