Georgian, Azerbaijani and Turkish Railways sign MoU on organising cargo transport on Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway

The heads of Georgian, Azerbaijani, and Turkish Railways have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at organising freight transportation along the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway.

The agreement was reached during a meeting in Almaty, Kazakhstan, held as part of Transport Week, involving Georgian Railways’ General Director Lasha Abashidze, Azerbaijan Railways (ADY) Chairman Rovshan Rustamov, and Turkish State Railways, TCDD Taşımaçılık, General Director Ufuk Yalçın.

The parties committed to enhancing the competitiveness of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars route relative to other transport corridors, attracting additional freight flows through optimised delivery times, and offering competitive tariffs that provide stable conditions for cargo transport and transparent pricing.

The meeting’s primary goal was to establish a stable and predictable operational regime along the railway, improve conditions for cargo owners, and increase overall transport volumes. Emphasis was placed on meeting delivery deadlines, which is considered crucial to maintaining the route’s attractiveness for carriers.
