Georgian Airways reiterated media reports about transit flights from Georgia to several nations on Thursday, stating “they serve nothing but to make a noise.”
“We remind you that, in addition to Russians, many foreign citizens live and work in the Russian Federation. Citizens from the EU and the US also travel to and from Russia. Hence, it is not correct to say that only Russian citizens use Georgia as a transit location,” according to the statement.
In an interview with GPB First Channel, the Director of Georgian Airways, Tamaz Gaiashvili, stressed that “Georgia can not carry out transit flights.”
“For many years, we have talked about becoming a transit hub, but Tbilisi Airport is unable to do so. We are now linked to the worldwide network, and tickets are offered online. A Russian citizen can buy a plane ticket in Mexico and go to Tbilisi, Israel, Paris, or wherever he or she wishes. The rest is nonsense,” Gaiashvili declared.
