Georgia promotes innovation with regional startup programs, Deputy Minister says

“The Georgian government is placing strong emphasis on regional cooperation in fostering an innovative startup ecosystem, offering a range of programs for successful regional startups,” stated the Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Irakli Nadareishvili.

Speaking about recent initiatives, Nadareishvili highlighted the significance of a student camp organized under the Memorandum of Cooperation between Georgia’s Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development and Uzbekistan, focused on artificial intelligence. The camp provided Georgian and Uzbek students the opportunity to collaborate on projects in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, machine learning, and other emerging technological fields.

“Such camps are held regularly for both students and schoolchildren throughout the year, covering various technology-focused topics. They give young people the chance to work on specific projects, explore new technologies, and create innovative products alongside highly qualified mentors,” Nadareishvili noted.

This month, the Innovation and Technology Agency of the Ministry of Economy organized two camps in Kakheti and Bakuriani. Participants spent a week attending lectures, learning the fundamental principles of art, science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), and applying them to practical projects. Uzbek students joined their Georgian peers at the Bakuriani camp.

The Innovation and Technology Agency covers all participation and related expenses. The initiative aims to spark interest in technology and innovation among young people while helping them develop practical skills and knowledge for future careers in the sector.
