Georgia joined the International Radiation Monitoring and Information System (IRMIS), the Georgian Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture reported.
The IRMIS system, created in consideration of Georgia’s international obligations, is an important mechanism in the process of early notification and response management of nuclear or radiological emergency situations.
“Joining the IRMIS system confirms Georgia’s commitment to the international legal regime regulating the field of nuclear and radiation safety and international cooperation,” said Head of the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Agency, Khatia Jikuridze.
Georgia is the 50th contributor country of the IRMIS.
