Deputy Justice Minister: Over last 15 years, number of complaints in European Court decreased by 93%; Georgia outruns 29 European states, including 19 EU member states
Over the last 15 years, the number of complaints before the European Court has decreased by 93%. The number of complaints against Georgia decreased last year. With this figure, Georgia stands ahead of 29 European states, including 19 EU member states,” said Beka Dzamashvili, First Deputy Minister of Justice, echoing the Global Competitiveness Report published by the World Economic Forum (WEF).
According to Dzamashvili, since 2012, the European Court has not found a violation in any case where the independence of the Georgian judicial system was contested.
“The report published today by the World Bank is fully consistent with this reality. It should also be noted that, a few years ago, the Ministry of Justice commissioned a study from a highly reputable research organization, Ipsos France, regarding the perception of judicial independence; in this metric, too, Georgia’s figures exceeded the European Union average by nearly 10%,” he said.
