A regional meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is currently taking place in Tbilisi, with representatives from 22 countries, including Georgia, in attendance.
According to a representative of the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Agency within the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, the gathering aims to exchange experience, discuss practical approaches, and deepen cooperation among the participating nations. This will help to enhance preparedness and response capabilities in the face of emergencies.
The event is being led by experts from the IAEA, who will introduce participants to international standards and practical mechanisms for emergency management.
Key topics on the agenda include threat assessment, response plans and procedures, measures for protecting the population, monitoring, and effective communication with the public during crises.
The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture highlights that the regional meeting is crucial for exchanging expertise, knowledge, and best practices, all of which play a vital role in strengthening security systems and enhancing effective response capabilities throughout the region.
Regional meetings organised by the IAEA are held regularly to strengthen cooperation among member states, facilitate the sharing of experiences, and promote the exchange of best practices. The venue is chosen in agreement with participating countries and aligned with the agency’s priorities, providing different states the opportunity to host the event.
“These meetings are an important platform for enhancing professional knowledge, technical expertise, and regional collaboration,” the Ministry stated.
