Gedevan Popkhadze - If Grigol Vashadze wins elections, it will be a real step towards civil war
If Grigol Vashadze wins elections, it will be a real step towards the civil war in Georgia, – Gedevan Popkhadze, a member of the parliamentary majority, told reporters.
“The reason for this is the revanchist sentiments and the task of the ‘National Movement’ to bring Saakashvili in Georgia and to release Merabishvili and Akhalaia from prison, of course, all this will be directed towards the liquidation of political opponents who are a problem for Saakashvili. We know what Saakashvili and his team plan to do. I am sure that we all will together stand against the threat facing us…and we will manage to prevent this fascist force to become a precondition for the death of Georgia,” Popkhadze said.
The second round of presidential polls will be held in Georgia following the October 28 first round of elections.
Based on the latest data of the Georgian Central Election Commission (CEC), Salome Zurabishvili, an independent presidential candidate supported by the ruling Georgian Dream Party received 615 433 votes – 38.64%, while Grigol Vashadze, presidential candidate of National Movement – 37.74 % of votes (600 970 votes).
