GD's Mdinaradze: Parliamentary majority to support PM’s initiative to combat drug addiction

“The parliamentary majority will support the Prime Minister’s initiative, which promises to play a crucial role in the fight against drug addiction. These reforms will be implemented swiftly, prohibiting private entities from executing substitution therapy programs, which will instead be managed by the state,” Mamuka Mdinaradze, Executive Secretary of Georgian Dream, posted on social media.

As Mdinaradze emphasises, initiatives like these require maximum public support.

“We will relocate the infrastructure for these programs away from densely populated areas. The import of psychotropic medications by private companies will also be strictly prohibited. Furthermore, strict controls will be established over the prescription of psychotropic drugs. These and similar measures demand the full backing of the public! We must do everything in our power to save our generation. No one else will prioritise this—only we can. This is in the best interest of Georgia and its citizens,” Mdinaradze stated.

Today, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze announced during a briefing at the government administration that a decision was made to fully ban the implementation of substitution therapy programs by private entities. The government will assume full responsibility for these initiatives. Additionally, the Prime Minister declared that the import and sale of psychotropic medications by private companies would be completely banned, with the state holding the exclusive authority over their import and distribution.
