GD's Mdinaradze believes Georgia must remain independent of all foreign powers in fight for its sovereignty

“Today, Russia occupies our land and stands as our enemy. However, if another power seeks to do the same in the future, we must classify them as an enemy as well. Georgia will always fight for its independence, regardless of who opposes us,” asserted Mamuka Mdinaradze, leader of the parliamentary majority.

Mdinaradze’s comments came in response to a question regarding Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze’s statement that “36 years after the tragedy of April 9, a foreign power continues to perpetrate violence on Rustaveli Avenue.”

According to Mdinaradze, the identity of the foreign power threatening Georgia’s independence is irrelevant; this principle must be clearly articulated.

“I will reiterate that it is essential to draw an equal sign here. We must understand that any foreign power—whether it is a Russian occupier or another entity encroaching on our sovereignty—poses a threat to Georgia and its people. It does not matter if the occupation is led by Russia or another nation. Today, Russia is our aggressor, but if tomorrow another country attempts to undermine our independence, we must also recognize them as an enemy, regardless of their intentions. Any group that threatens our sovereignty, be it Russian or of any other nationality, is an adversary in our fight for independence. We must strive to be independent from all influences. True independence means being free from the control of any foreign power, regardless of their nationality or motives. We must internalize this principle.

It is important to remember that on April 9, 1989, the Soviet and Russian forces of Rodionov were our oppressors, and this historical fact is indisputable. However, when discussing foreign powers, it should be clear that it will never matter who those powers are in their bid to undermine Georgia’s independence. We must collectively acknowledge and uphold our independence from all foreign entities. It is crucial to foster a clear and healthy public opinion on this matter,” Mdinaradze concluded in response to the journalist’s question.
