GD's Mdinaradze announces amendments to Criminal Code: expulsion and entry ban for foreigners
According to Mamuka Mdinaradze, leader of the parliamentary majority, several key issues were discussed at today’s session, including the parliamentary majority’s new initiative concerning a legislative package on international protection.
During a briefing, Mdinaradze explained that the proposed amendments introduce a new type of punishment to the Criminal Code: the expulsion of foreigners from Georgia, coupled with a ban on re-entry for a specified period. Additionally, fines for foreigners who violate residence rules within Georgia are being increased, and the process for expelling foreigners unlawfully staying in the country is being streamlined. An associated amendment affects the Code of Administrative Offences, introducing a new administrative penalty — the expulsion of a foreigner and a ban on their re-entry into Georgia.
“The first issue is one that our society is deeply concerned about, especially given recent footage and current realities. In response to these challenges, we are presenting a new legislative package on international protection, which the Parliament of Georgia, led by the parliamentary majority, has developed. This package includes the addition of a new punishment to the Criminal Code, the expulsion of a foreigner and a re-entry ban for a certain period.
Moreover, a new administrative penalty is being introduced to the Administrative Offences Code — expulsion and re-entry ban for foreigners. Fines for violations of residence rules are significantly increased, and the procedures for expelling illegal foreigners are being greatly simplified,” Mdinaradze stated.
