GD’s Machavariani criticizes European bureaucrats for not saying anything about police violence during protests in France

“We see large-scale violence on the part of the police at protests in France going on for two weeks. European bureaucrats, who portrayed the burning of police officers live in Tbilisi as peaceful rallies, have not said a word,” said Levan Machavariani, a member of the Georgian Dream (GD) party in his Facebook post.

According to Machavariani, beyond “silence”, European bureaucrats portray jailed ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili as a “political fugitive” in their resolutions.

“When our team exposes Euro-bureaucrats for double standards and the dissemination of lies and disinformation, it is always based on concrete facts and arguments.

During the Brussels-funded violent demonstrations of November and December 2024, which aimed to overthrow the government, we witnessed only isolated instances of excessive force by individual members of the special forces.

Although around a thousand trained special forces personnel used force, only a few exceeded their authority. The state responded to these incidents, and the perpetrators were punished in accordance with the law.

When a Brussels-motivated revolutionary scenario was developing on October 4, we witnessed hundreds of violent demonstrators attacking the Presidential Palace. That day, our law enforcement officers thwarted the attack on the state with surgical precision, ensuring that not a single person suffered even the slightest injury. Despite this, Euro-bureaucrats attempted to portray the violence, including the burning of police vehicles and the Parliament building, as well as the attempt to storm the Presidential Palace, as a peaceful protest, while trying to label the repulsion of that assault as ‘systemic violence,'” he said.

Levan Machavariani went on to say that protests are going on in France with the demand to improve learning conditions and that we see violence from police officers against protesters, including women and children. However, European bureaucrats keep silent.

“Those Members of the European Parliament who characterized the security agencies’ repelling of an attack on the state as ‘systemic violence’ have not issued a single statement. In effect, they have declared political persecution against our government for preventing violent revolutions in Georgia.

The most tragic is that, alongside this ‘criminal’ silence, Euro-bureaucrats are referring to the criminal Saakashvili as a political refugee in their yet another, 9th resolution.

As the current U.S. administration notes in its National Security Strategy document: ‘Brussels is pushing the European Union toward a civilizational abyss,’” he wrote.
