Ambassador Herczyński: EU has never supported violence, neither in Georgia nor elsewhere
“The European Union has never supported violence, neither in Georgia nor elsewhere,” EU Ambassador to Georgia Paweł Herczynski told reporters on the occasion of Europe Day in Kakheti.
The Ambassador stated that the EU supported democracy, rule of law and human rights.
Paweł Herczynski went on to say that EU foreign ministers would discuss “the deteriorating situation in Georgia” on October 12.
“EU foreign ministers will hold a meeting on Monday [October 12] to discuss the situation in Georgia. In fact, EU foreign ministers discuss Georgia quite regularly. Why? Because we are deeply concerned about events in your beautiful country. We are concerned about the deteriorating human rights situation and the state of democracy.
You are well aware that in today’s Georgia, people go to prison for standing on the sidewalk. People go to prison for Facebook posts. Funds from the EU and its member states—which have always supported Georgia’s sovereignty and development—are being driven out of the country. This is, of course, extremely problematic; that is why, once again, the ministers will discuss the deteriorating situation in Georgia next Monday,” said Herczyński.
