GD's Machavariani: After Georgia, France adopted Transparency Law, GB tightened its own
“After Georgia adopted the Transparency Law, France passed it, and Great Britain tightened its own. A similar law is being adopted in Romania, which is noteworthy,” said Levan Machavariani, MP of the Georgian Dream party, remarking on the statement by the President of France.
According to Machavariani, the statements made by the Georgian government should not be surprising.
“On the one hand, Macron’s statement should be applauded, taking into account that when defending your country’s sovereignty, another country must not be allowed to interfere in domestic affairs or dictate which law should be adopted and which repealed. On the other hand, Macron’s statement confirms what we are speaking about when foreign countries do the same thing towards Georgia, and I mean France and Brussels.
This has continued for years. The visa-free travel issue is used for blackmail to force us to repeal the Laws on Transparency and LGBT Propaganda. After Georgia adopted the Transparency Law, France passed it, and Great Britain tightened its own. A similar law is being adopted in Romania, which is noteworthy since, when unfair statements are made toward Georgia, they would not be surprised by the assessments made by our government,” he said.
French President Emmanuel Macron said France would not bow to pressure from U.S. President Donald Trump and scrap its digital tax on U.S. tech giants. Asked if he would yield to the tariff threats, Macron responded that the U.S. does not decide the legislation of the French people, saying: “No, because that is not how it works.”
