“The German ambassador is mistaken when he claims that Georgia attacks the European Union,” stated Davit Matikashvili, Chair of the Parliamentary Procedural Affairs Committee.

Matikashvili also expressed regret over the ambassador of a partner country secretly meeting with representatives of the radical opposition.

“At the same time, his attitude toward Georgia’s recent elections and the choices made by the Georgian people appears to be an attempt to undermine the will of our population and serve the interests of global negative forces. This is truly regrettable.

I call on him to acknowledge the series of events that have unfolded since the very first day of the Ukraine conflict—how the candidate status was exploited as a tool to drag Georgia into destructive processes. Unfortunately, EU bureaucracy has been active in this regard. We have seen how Members of the European Parliament attended anti-government protests, demonstrating radical intentions, and how high-ranking officials from EU member states delivered speeches at these rallies.

If there are any complications in relations, the primary responsibility lies with the EU and the German ambassador, rooted in the decisions made within the EU bureaucracy, decisions often marked by anti-Georgian rhetoric. The fact that ambassadors hold secret meetings with radicals speaks volumes. If these meetings and their topics remain concealed, we must assume they concern radical interests,” he said.

German Ambassador to Georgia Peter Fischer previously stated: “Georgia wants to join the European Union, but at the same time, it criticises the EU and spreads false information, I would say disinformation, about the EU. If you want to join an organisation like the European Union, it is not a good idea to speak so badly about it.”
